Hot Stone Massage
Hot Stone Massage
New Serenity Spa, Sonora Village Plaza, Scottsdale, AZ.
Hot Stone massage is one of several types of massage we offer at New Serenity Spa. It uses soothing oils, warm basalt and sometimes cold marble stones to relax your muscles, allowing for a deeper and more intense all-over massage. The heat from the stones relaxes your muscles very quickly, which allows the massage to be more effective. The therapist is able to get deeper into the tissue using her hands and stones.
The stones are usually coated with an oil that also helps with relaxation.
Benefits of Hot Stone Massage
- boost your circulation
- release stored tension
- recharge your energy levels
- Pain relieve
- Mental benefit
- Relaxation
If you have one of the following health issues, you may consider a hot stone massage: stress, insomnia, rheumatic and arthritic conditions, poor circulation and muscular pain.
Your therapist will use a variety of strokes and techniques to massage you, working the stones and her hands over the kinks in your muscles. The massage may be quite strong, although you are unlikely to feel the intensity since your muscles will be relaxed by the stones. You will probably feel deeply relaxed after your massage.
Mental benefits may be received as a result of the total relaxation that occurs through Hot Stone Therapy. The heated stones are placed strategically along pressure points to help melt away tension creating a calming that helps stress, anxiety and other life annoyances disappear long enough for the mind to relax, at the deepest level. Arthritis discomfort may be reduced as the heat penetrates deep into the muscles relaxing them. A sense of wellness can occur as the warm stones relax the body and the mind is calmed. It is in this relaxed state that the body becomes re-energized.
While all types of massage can help relieve pain caused by tense muscles, stiff joints or injuries, a hot stone massage may provide greater relief due to the intense nature of the massage. Because the hot stones allow the massage therapist to penetrate deeper, you may find that a hot stone massage leaves you feeling physically better than a Swedish or deep-tissue massage that does not incorporate heat. It is important to let your massage therapist know if you feel that the heat from the stones is too much or that the pressure he is using is too harsh.
